The subtle difference between Remote work and working from home.

Ever since the pandemic a majority of the people were forced to work remotely due to the quarantine. This has achieved positive results in almost every aspect and is widespread across the globe despite quarantine restrictions being lifted. Compared to working from home, remote working is a rather broad term that includes people that work from home, co-working areas or anyone that doesn't work in an office..

Remote working has given rise to several terms including work from home, flex work and many more.

How does this work?

Remote workers make use of digital tools to finish projects , interact with their team and get work done. Remote work can be done from any part of the globe as long as the employee has a fully functional computer system with optimal requirements and a stable internet connection.

Under this model employees afrent required to come into the office everyday. Some come to the office on alternate days , once a week or in many cases do not have to come to the office at all. This would allow people to work even if their office resides in a different state or country. This changes the office dynamics completely, and managers must strive to improve the office environment from an approach that is very different from what they are used to.

Leading this kind of work life requires a different set of skills, resources and abilities.

When one works remotely, you are not able to have the benefits that you would if you are physically present, you would need to put in extra effort when it comes to keeping tabs on your team or ensuring to maintain relations with your co-workers despite not being able to meet them face to face.

However one of the biggest benefits of remote working is that you have complete control over your own working environment. Depending on your working preferences you work from a park, at home, a cafe or even a co-working space. With remote working you have the liberty to optimise your productivity by creating a working space according to your working preferences .

How is working from home different  from remote work?

Work from home is the same as remote working except you work from within your house. Work from home doesn't necessarily mean that you never visit the office. Work from home is one of the most common forms of remote work today and it can vary from never going to the office to taking a day to work from home instead of at the office for you to concentrate on a few personal things that require you to be located at home.

But compared to remote work., work from home would require you to make several adjustments within your personal environment. As in you would have to have a dedicated work area within your house and make efforts to set boundaries that separates your work environment from your personal environment.

The biggest advantage of working from home is that you get to work from the comfort of your own home and skip the office commute which would be very welcoming for people who struggle to commute to work due to bad traffic, crowded train rides , etc.

What does remote work mean for the future of work culture across the globe?

The dynamics of the work culture is going to be very different in the post-pandemic future.

This change may not mean that people work from home all the time but they will definitely be able to be more independent when it comes to their dependency on the office space. This also enables employers to hire talent from anywhere on the plant as per their requirement without having to worry about relocation costs and proves to be very beneficial for for several industries such as sales and technology. These innovations within the work place have certainly created ripples around the world and call on the employees and urges everyone to understand the changing digital culture and develop skills to help them succeed in this unfamiliar and exciting era of digitization.
